Today at Enrich

Today it is my last learning day at Enrich because I am Year 6. I am really sad to be leaving. :(

Today at Passion time Kate and I did floor planner again.

I have started and Cafe and Restaurant. I think it looks good!

I haven't quite finished it yet.

The first one is the cafe and I have not added people into it yet.

The second one is the restaurant which is upstairs from the cafe.

I hope to finish it at home!

I also finished painting my money box Owl.

I started painting it last Tuesday.

P4C with Katie

Today at Enrich I did P4C with Katie it was about animal rights.

First we had to list in our books 'Human Rights" 

I had:

Going to school/ Education

Clothes and shelter

and Health Care

After that we had to list Animal Rights.

We also watched clips from Babe the movie.

It helped us think of more animal rights.

We talked about how animals are used for testing cosmetics (make up), pills

and medicine.

Story Bird

Today at Enrich, Darryn showed me a website called Story Bird which 

is a programme with heaps of pictures which you can use to make a book. 

Because I love writing I think it is a great website.

I am looking forward to next week so I can make a 

story and add really cool illustrations in.

Also today we did thinkers keys.

The thinkers keys I did were variations, which was thinking of things

differently or changing something, one of the questions was ways to keep dry when it was raining. One of the things my group thought of was getting a giant plastic dome on wheels. The other key I did was,

the ridiculous key, which is having a ridiculous statement and thinking of positive outcomes.

One of the ones we got was if the driving limit changed to 6 years old. 

It was so fun!

Floor Planner - Passion Time

Today during passion time Kate R and I went onto www.floorplanner.com and did a house plan because when I'm older one of the jobs I would like to do is to be an architect. It was so fun I haven't finished it yet but I think it looks really cool!
This is what it looks like so far:

I have a master bedroom, bathroom, walk in closet, kitchen, lounge, hall way and a patio deck thing!
I made an account so I can save my work!
On I also so have a second floor but I haven't started it yet but it will hopefully be awesome.

Planting

Today Kate and I had to get to Enrich at 8:15am to get to the Waihopai River to set up our planting day.We were sponsored by Watties who gave us juice and Environment Southland who helped us. When we got there we saw Hannah H and Madison who had brought wheel-barrows so we could wheel the plants down to the site. Soon at 9:30 the rest of our Enrich group came and we started planting! YAY! We showed them how you make the hole to put the plant in and how to put the protecter and weed sheet on.  Next everyone was planting and the Southland Times came!
Overall it took us 2 whole hours to plant 250 plants! It was really fun!

Visual Spatial Spelling

Today at Enrich we did visual spatial spelling.
It was really fun. Darryn wrote us a word on the Ipad that was put into syllables and different colours.
The first word was Astrophysics and it looked like this As tro phy sics.
We had to look at it for 30 seconds then closed our eyes and see if we could see the As tro phy sics  in our head then we had to write it backwards like this scisyhportsA. I could write it backwards but I couldn't see it in my head. The next word was Elephant. It looked like this El e ph ant. 
Again I could write it backwards like this tnahpelE but I couldn't see El e ph ant in my head! 

Air Pollution!

Today at Enrich we learnt about air pollution.

We watched a video with the ten most air polluted cities in the world.

It was really cool but at the same time it was really sad to see the conditions 

that some people have to live in.

After we watched the video we had to write down 2 things that we had learnt

and 1 thing that we wondered.

I learnt that Ahvas in Iran is the most air polluted city in the world with 372 

micro-grams per cubic metre and that LA is only 25 micro-grams per cubic metre.

I also wondered how do people breath in those conditions and how long before they got ill or died?

Today at Enrich!

Today at Enrich I did 3D Drawing with Darryn. It was fun!
We had to draw 3D boxes overlapping each other! It was really hard to get all of the lines straight.


Another thing we did today was the Wilson game called Bulls Eye.
We were in teams of 7 and 8 and had 4 little bean bags that we had to throw into hoops.
Once we threw the first bean bag into the first hoop you had go onto the next hoop that was further away then the first! It was great and I got two bean bags into the hoop. Yay!


We also did our Environment Projects and I think that the Waihopai Restoration project that I am doing with Madison, Kate and Hannah is going really well. We had a meeting with Environment Southland last week and we are allowed to do it! We are planting plants along the Waihopai Bank next to the dam to stop mud running into the river.

Dinoscope

Today for high interest stations I did the dino-scope workshop with Darryn. It was awesome!

A dino-scope is something you can plug into your computer and it is like a magnifier.

We looked at dead flies, it was gross. 

The wing looked really interesting because they had a pinky green sort of colour through it!

I also looked at a feather and one of the strands off the feather looks like a normal feather but only under the dino-scope. It was amazing.

I am looking forward to next week so I can do it again.

Teacher comment

Hey Hannah, I was so impressed with your day.  You and Kate quickly chose your environment project and were into it.  I liked the way you just got on with it, using your initiative and you have already made good progress.  I hope you enjoyed Spanish today, it looked interesting and a lot of fun.  I can’t wait to see how much you can speak at the end of it.  Hope you had a great week at school and ready for another busy day at enrich.

Technology Challenge

Today at Enrich we did a technology challenge. 

That is where you are given a task in a group and you have a limited amount of materials! 
Today we had to make a shuttlecock launcher! 
The winners were the group who can make it go the longest distance in a horizontal line.
It was so fun!


Also Anastazia from Environment Southland came in and talked to us about the Waihopai River and Seaward bush and how they are getting polluted with people littering and how too much mud is getting in the Waihopai River. 

Term Two Self Assesment!

Today I did a self assesment about term two at Enrich. 

It gave me ten sentence starters then I had to fill it in!

It took me a while to do it but I finally finished it!

We also played a Willson game! It was great!

You had to be in groups of three and you had to hold hands!

When Darryn clapped you had to do a big jump but you had to do it in sync with your

group and you had to jump like a kangaroo so you had to jump with your feet

one beside the other and then you had to land with your feet one beside the other.

It was so hard!

Spanish

Today at Enrich I went to spanish.
This time we learnt how to say how old we are .
To say how old you are in spanish you say "Tengo ________ anos"
So I would say "Tengo dies anos" That means "I am ten"


We also learnt how to ask someone how old they are.
In spanish you say "Cuantos anos tienes"


We did an activity sheet that was awesome. There was a picture of
someone and underneath there was their name and age. You had to introduce them in
Spanish.


One of them was "Me llamo Jessica. Tengo trece anos"
That means My name is Jessica and I am thirteen 


I thought it was really fun and I can't wait for next week.

Photograpghy

Today at Talent Development we edited photos that we took at Queens Park last week!!!

It was really fun! :)

For editing I tried collaging a few of my photos together and I thought it looked really really cool!

I did my collage about the Southland Museum and the Tuatara's!

Passion Time

Today at passion time I carried on with poetry.


I am doing poetry because I love it and I want to know some poetry skills.
At passion time Darryn helped me with a poem and gave me A LOT of ideas!


The poem I am working at now is a wet autumn poem that I am doing in free verse. 
Free verse is were there is no rules apart from get rid of a word if you don't need it and if you can try  to replace two or three words with one word.
One of my favourite lines is: 


People hurrying indoors, shaking the rain drops off their umbrellas, tugging off soaking coats racing to make a hot chocolate!


I like passion time because it is super fun but super challenging!      

Queens Park

Today at Enrich I went to Queens Park with my photography group!
It was awesome!
We had to take nature photos that we could manipulate and also static images!
I took some great photos!
When we got back we had to use I-photo to edit them!

Wearable Arts

Today at Enrich we went to Invercargill Museum to see the wearable arts exhibition.
It was awesome.

There were heaps of unusual but AMAZING designs. My favourite was the butterfly dress.
It looked really cool because it looked like butterflies were actually flying around the dress!

When we got back one of our picks was to either sketch or design one of the dresses or to write a short story or poem about the wearable arts exhibition and how it may of inspired us.

Passion Time

This week we had passion time that is were we get an hour and a half to do what our passion is.
Mine was Writing/Poetry. It was really fun but a little bit hard!
I am studying different poets and then writing my own poem.
Today I studied Roald Dahl, he is a very good poet and very inspiring!
I am looking forward to next week! :)

Theatre Sports!

Today at Enrich we did theatre sports. 

Theatre sports is where you have to act but you don't have a script. 

It was very hard but very FUN!

We played a game called props. It is where you get given a very strange item and you have

to think on the spot to make it something!

When I went up with my partner we got given pool noodles.

We thought very hard and came up with some good ideas like elephant trunks,

horses and a unicorn horn!

Spanish

Last week at Enrich we got a chance to learn spanish. It was awesome.We learnt how to introduce ourselves and learnt how similar Spanish and English words are spelt! 

One of the things that I liked was learning how to pronounce Spanish words. 

We got handed two pieces of paper that had some words on them and we had had to try to pronounce them and guess what they meant. I got Vinagre and Lepardo. They mean vinegar and leopard.
